Iowa Legislative Committee Chairs Named

Speaker of the House Rep. Pat Grassley and Senator Jack Whitver, Senate Majority Leader, have appointed members from their respective chambers that will be serving in committee leadership positions in the 89th Iowa General Assembly.

Steve Firman, Director of Government Affairs, shares, "Grow Cedar Valley most closely follows the House and Senate Appropriations Committees, the House and Senate Ways and Means Committees (the tax writing committees), the House and Senate State Government Committees, as well as the House Economic Growth Committee (the Senate does not have a companion committee).
The leadership of the House Appropriations and Ways and Means Committees remains the same as in the last General Assembly; the new Senate Committee chairs for these two committees were the vice-chairs previously. This leads us to believe there won’t likely be any significant changes in how the committees operate or their priorities going into this session.
The same is true for both State Government committees as the chairs are both the same as in last year’s session. The new chair of the House Economic Growth Committee is Ray Sorenson, a small business owner from Greenfield, who believes that improving infrastructure and expanding broadband will help the state attract and retain business."
